In January 2013 The Grand Priory of Great Britain achieved
charitable status in England and Wales. As a charitable
trust, the Grand Priory has established a foundation
in order to better meet the needs of our charitable partners. The Order of
Saint Lazarus, Grand Priory of Great Britain Charitable Trust is a registered
charity, number
1150392. Our
recognition as a charity allows the Grand Priory Charitable Trust to receive
money tax-free using either Gift Aid or payroll giving.
Our governing trust deed has established our intention to support such purposes as are exclusively charitable according to the laws of England and Wales as the Trustees may from time to time determine. For our Grand Priory this is a significant move in our charitable aims, in support for hospices and charitable organisations associated with the fight against Hansen’s Disease.

The trustees hold and control the trust’s assets, deciding how the income and assets of the trust should be distributed, and make sure that this is in line with the charitable purposes of the trust. The charitable purposes form part of the trust deed and describe the sort of causes that the Grand Priory supports.
